Writing Reference: List of Aphrodisiacs

Here is a brief list of some of the foods that have been considered, at some time or other, to have aphrodisiac qualities.

Almond - As well as being the same shape as the vesica piscis, the sacred doorway through which matter emerges into spirit, the almond is a nut and therefore carries the potential for new life.

Aniseed - Falls into the category of seeds. Also aids digestion and sweetens the breath which could explain why the Romans considered it a useful ingredient for seduction.

Apple - Infamous as the fruit that Eve gave to Adam, a symbol of sexual awakening.

Asafetida - (or Asafoetida) This is the ground root of a fennel-like plant. It has a powerful odor, and despite its folk name, Devil’s Dung, it is used as a sexual stimulant in Ayurvedic medicine.

Avocado - The Mexicans called the avocado tree the “testicle tree,” since the fruit dangles down in pairs. The sensual texture of avocado adds to its reputation.

Banana - The banana flower resembles the phallus. Islamic tales say that Adam and Eve covered their sexual parts with banana leaves rather than the more common fig leaves.

Cherry - Sensuously red and juicy, and containing a potent symbol of new life inside the stone. “Popping the cherry” is a slang term for losing one’s virginity.

Coriander - Also comes under the category of seeds. Reputed to stimulate appetites of all kinds.

Fennel - The Egyptians who used this as a sexual stimulant cannot have known that it contains plant estrogens that can help balance female hormones. These estrogens also enhance the breasts.

Fig - The plethora of tiny seeds inside the fig is symbolic of fertility, and the moist plumpness of the fruit has a very sensual, feminine element to it.

Ginger and ginseng - Considered to have aphrodisiac powers because of their sharp sensual taste, and because their roots resemble the human form.

Honey - The sweetness of honey made it a rarity for ancient man. Mint - A Greek legend says that Menthe, a beautiful nymph, was transformed into the herb because Persephone was jealous of the beautiful scent that captivated her husband, Pluto.

Oyster - The oyster’s resemblance in form, scent, and texture to the female genitalia is renowned. Oysters have had a long history as an aphrodisiac and their reputation is well known. The pearl that is sometimes found inside the oyster was said to increase the powers of arousal, because it resembles the clitoris. Other shellfish, such as mussels, fall into this same category.

Raspberries and strawberries - Libido enhancing because of their color, their many tiny seeds, and their resemblance to nipples.

Star anise - Because of its shape, the star anise was sacred to the Goddess and therefore a potent fertility symbol.

Tomato - Also called the “Love Apple” and is regarded as an aphrodisiac, because of the prolific number of seeds contained within it. However, the name itself is the result of an accidental misinterpretation. Because they were originally a yellow color they were called “Pomo D’or” in Italy, the Apple of Gold. It was also called the “Pomo d’Moro”—the apple of the Moors, referring to its Spanish origins. From here, it was just a slip of the tongue to the French, “Pomme d’Amour,” or Love Apple.

Staal states, "When in Classical times the Sun passed in front of the stars of Aquarius, it used to be the rainy season" (Staal 42). "Two thousand years ago Aquarius coincided with the month of February, which has its derivation from februare, "to cleanse." In those far off days it was during the time of Aquarius that people cleaned their homes, farms, and barns after the long dark winter" (Staal 43).

This constellation is located in an area of the sky commonly associated with water. Other aquatic constellations in this region include: Cetus, Pisces, Piscis Austrinus, Capricornus, Eridanus, and Delphinus. "According to Ideler, the reason for this designation of "the Sea" for this region of the heavens is because the sun passes through this part of the sky during the rainy season of the year" (Olcott 31).

Staal claims that, "in practically all countries of the world the story of the great flood is told in some version or another. Ancient mythology personified this event in Aquarius..." (Staal 43).

The Aquarius constellation is often seen as pouring water (in the form of the constellation of Eridanus) into the mouth of the southern fish (Piscis Austrinus). It's unknown the historical/mythological significance of the fish, however this imagery is often repeated throughout different artistic reimaginings (Olcott 32).

Aquarius was seen by many different cultures as a human figure pouring out water from "a jar or pitcher." The sole exception would be Arabic astronomers, who were "forbidden by law to draw the human figure" (Olcott 31). Instead Aquarius was represented by a mule carrying barrels of water (or alternatively a water bucket) on its back.

In Greek Mythology, Aquarius is associated with Ganymede who became the cup-bearer of the gods. Jupiter was fascinated with the beauty of the young boy and kidnapped him/sent an eagle to kidnap him, as was often the case with Jupiter (Olcott 32). Water-carrying was an important and common occupation in ancient times. Water was offered to travelers as refreshment and to clean their feet. "Ganymede had a place next to Jupiter's throne on Olympus and, whenever he accompanied Jupiter elsewhere, he was seated on the eagle" (Staal 43). The eagle that did this is said to be the one seen in the constellation of Aquila.

In Ovid's "Fasti," says that the liquid is a mixture of water and nectar, the drink of the gods (Ridpath 25).

Aquarius has been associated with biblical figures such as Moses or John the Baptist (Allen 46).

The acient Egyptians associated the constellation with good fortune and imagined that "the setting of Aquarius caused the rising of the Nile, as he sank his huge urn in the river to fill it" (Allen 47).

In Norse Mythology, "Aquarius was considered Wali's place and was supposed to be covered in silver" (Olcott 32).

In the Indian Zodiac Aquarius was called "Kumbha" (meaning "water jar") and had an associated with Storm-gods (Olcott 32).

Aquarius, as we know it, was "unknown to the ancient Chinese" (Staal 43).

Ridpath states, "Several stars in Aquarius have named beginning with 'Sad.' In Arabic, sa'd means 'luck'" (Ridpath 26).

Alpha Aquarii Name: Sadalmelik Color: Yellow Apparent Magnitude: 2.95 - Translates to "the lucky stars of the king" in Arabic (Ridpath 26). - This was the determinate star of its respective lunar station (Allen 51).

Beta Aquarii Name: Sadalsuud Color: Yellow Apparent Magnitude: 2.95 - Translates to "luckiest of the lucky" in Arabic (Ridpath 26).

Delta Aquarii Name: Skat Color: White Apparent Magnitude: 3.27 - This is a very unlucky star with the alternate name "Scheat" (Allen 53).

Ideas:

This is another constellation I can't see myself writing too much with, but I have a number of thoughts about it. I'm fascinated by the combination of luck, renewal, and death found in their constellation. They used to bring in the wet season but they were also the memory of a great flood that would wipe out most of the planet's population. Then you have Ganymede-- cup-bearer of the gods. To whom where these stars lucky? Alpha Aquarii being the luck of kings in particular gives this constellation an interesting vibe to kind of go with. Maybe this constellation, in the story, does not serve the common folk but rather the richer ones. Maybe they're a bit corrupt? I dunno.

This is Horea Minovici, a payara piscis. He is 19 years old, 180 cm tall, goes by he/ him and is gay. When he moved to Japan he took on the alias of Zāzākun, which goes with his boyfriend Emil‘s nickname, which is Sakachan.

Horea is very much aloof from the outside, he wants to look stronger than he actually is. But on the inside he is a raging torrent of emotions; he easily cries, either out of anger or happiness, has a quick-tempered personality, and is very sensitive to the emotional distress of other people. He often blames himself and gets quickly jealous and overprotective over his boyfriend. Zāzākun deeply loves his better side and would do anything for him, Sakachan gives him a sense of safety and being needed, although their love risked a lot of things in their lives. So much so that they had to move from their home in Romania to Japan.

The payara piscis works as a model for fashion and make-up ads and magazines. He is very satisfied with the work he does, although it can be very stressful. This job is his everything and currently the only source of income of the two piscis boys. Emil is studying at the local university, so he isn‘t really earning anything. This became somewhat of a problem one day, because Horea had a little accident where he suffered a scaphoid fracture. He found himself in the hospital, where he met Katsuro. They found themselves in the same boat, facing both mental health issues.

Horea is a born swimmer, it always was his favourite hobby and it always will be. He loves to play around with clothes and make-up, expressing his style however he feels like. Sometimes he organises his own photoshoots with his friends, dressing them up and doing their make-up.

That’s a possibility and that does happen because they pick someone comfortable to you. That happens with celebrities a lot. I’ve had random ass dreams. Like deeply in love with some random guy at school (felt super weird about him bc I didn’t even know him) and even Cole Sprouse and sometimes people I haven’t seen. Like I’ve had dreams I’m like cuddling and sleeping in bed and stuff. But I know that’s not really them but someone masking as them.

Theoretically this could happen, but it’s not likely to me. If they want to fuck with you they don’t give you cute date dreams. I’ll give an example of someone fucking with me, I had a dream I was in love with this guy and he had a bunch of brothers (like 7 altogether) and they all had girlfriends and they would draw a name and that girlfriend had to be sacrificed to this troll, like giant troll. Obviously I was chosen except my boyfriend was like wtf, no, I’m not letting my girlfriend be eaten by a troll. Which, I mean good for him, because wtf kinda ritual. But I think that was like something fucking with me and whomever that guy that was my boyfriend was my counterparts energy. I know my counterpart has done this in other dreams and masked as people, and protected me, but I think maybe it could be an avatar from another life. Like I had this dream I was very passionately kissing this guy I’d never seen, but I knew it was my counterparts energy. But the face was so distinct. I think it may have been a face they wore in a life we had together. And let me tell you, yes it can be real. I can still remember that kiss vividly. It was so intense it woke me up. Which pissed me off but yeah.

Idk if your life could be boring with your mind, bestie. But yes. They aren’t actors but there can be strong messages communicated in dreams. I had a dream my cousin who works in finance was yelling at me that I needed to sell my stocks. This was before I knew I had precognitive dreams so I didn’t take action like a dumbass and guess what happened six months later. Stocks fell. You should keep a dream journal because it will help your mind get used to remembering these sort of details.

Yes. You can’t lose time because time is a construct. All things just are. What you experiences in dreams are as real as what you imagine when you read a book, or insights you have looking at art. It’s all real in that it changes your perspective. So yes, there’s more freedom in dreams to do things you can’t or wouldn’t in real life so it’s an amazing space to develop. It’s relatively safe too because your body is generally safe and not in danger of dying.
